Green light for €1 million fire station
BLESSINGTON’S long wait for a state of the art fire station looks set to finally end.
The Department of the Environment has given the go-ahead for a €970,000 grant for the construction of a new station, bringing Blessington in line with fire services elsewhere in the county. All going well, the new modern station will be up and running some time in 2004.
Wicklow Chief Fire Officer, Jim Dunphy, says that the need for proper facilities in Blessington has been ongoing for a number of years, particularly as the area continues to grow.
‘We have been working for a while to secure a new station and this proves that all our hard work has finally paid off. Blessington is the last of Wicklow’s ten stations to have decent facilities. Various stations differ in age but they are all of modern standard.’
The station will consist of two appliance bays suitable for two fire vehicles, a small lecture room, an office for the fire officer, changing rooms, shower facilities, a training tower and training yard and extra storage space for breathing apparatus and other equipment.
