Our Green Schools committee has been working hard to raise awareness of environmental issues in the last few weeks. Their motto competition had a huge amount of entries with the eventual winning motto chosen from Sarah McKechnie in 1st Year–‘Together as a team we can make our school green.’ It is proudly displayed on the Green Schools noticeboard and is being used on all Green Schools correspondence.

The committee organized a visit from Eoin Morton from An Taisce to deliver talks to all students on Thursday 27th November. As part of the Neat Streets programme undertaken by the school, Eoin spoke about Green Flags, recycling and other environmental issues that affect the school and its environs.

The committee met with him in the morning and organized the gym for the talks. They were on hand to help throughout the day. All year groups attended a talk and the event was very successful. Congratulations to the committee and their teacher, Ms. Jenkins.

As Christmas approaches, people’s thoughts turn to presents and food. For the poor second-level student, Christmas also means tests. Revision fever has taken hold with students studying hard. Our First Years find it especially daunting we have timetabled tests, supervised under exam conditions to begin the training in exam technique that is so important.

Our 1st year CSPE toy appeal project is going very well with a lot of high quality toys waiting to find their ways to deserving children. The students are currently deciding to which local charity they will donate. It is always a pleasure to see our students think of others less fortunate than themselves and to do something meaningful to help.

Loreto past pupil Sister Noelle Corscadden pictured during her recent visit to the school.
