It is with deep regret that the school acknowledges the loss of Aaron Wright. Our thoughts are with his sisters Codie and Shauna, who are senior students in Coláiste Chill Mhantáin.

We would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the extended Wright family.

On Thursday November 20th, Lhamo Fitzsimons participated in the Junior Category of the All-Ireland Semi-Final of the Poetry Aloud competition in the National Library of Ireland. Her performance was highly accomplished. Lhamo qualified for the Semi-Final at the Regional Heat of the competition, also hosted in the National Library, in October.

Lhamo recited two poems, one by W.B. Yeats and the other by Frank McGuinness. However the competition was very strong and, although Lhamo did not proceed to the Final in December, she acquitted herself and represented Coláiste Chill Mhantáin very well.

Auditions are ongoing in Coláiste Chill Mhantáin in preparation for our Christmas Talent Show which will be held on Friday December 19th. Well done to all who participated in the auditions and we look forward to seeing the successful candidates in the Talent Show which is one of the highlights of the academic year.

Congratulations to our Third Year students (3Shannon) who with the assistance of their Civic Social and Political Education (CSPE) teacher Mr. McInerney held a sponsored sleep over in Coláiste Chill Mhantáin on Thursday November 20th. Through this sponsored event they raised an incredible €625 for Wicklow Cancer Support. Well done to this innovative group of students on this achievement.

On Tuesday November 25th Coláiste Chill Mhantáin U–17 soccer team played Arklow CBS. Arklow CBS started the better of the side with a few half chances in the first twenty minutes. After that Coláiste Chill Mhantáin settled into the game.

It was 0-0 at half time but Coláiste Chill Mhantáin struck the lead through a well worked team goal finished off by Seamus Cosgrove. Shaun Vickers put Coláiste Chill Mhantáin two up with a well worked individual effort before Arklow CBS won one back with a long ball. After soaking up a little Arklow CBS pressure, Coláiste Chill Mhantáin sealed the match through a second goal from Seamus Cosgrove.

Man of the match went to Alan Power for an excellent display at midfield with Ross Quinn a close second at right back. Strong performances on the day also came from Shaun Vickers, Seamus Cos- grove and Stephan Cruise. Well done to the team on this victory.

The Instructional Leadership working group met in St. Kevin’s Dunlavin on Tuesday November 25th. Ms Chambers and Mr Guinan represented Coláiste Chill Mhantáin.

The group are working on a package of active learning methodologies that can be presented to teachers in Kildare Wicklow Education Training Board (KWETB) schools. They in turn can then use them in their own classroom to enhance their teaching and learning.

The teachers in Coláiste Chill Mhantáin are going to concentrate on Graphic Organisers such as mind maps. These can be done on the iPads as well as in copy books. A number of different learning styles can be covered in such an approach to teaching a topic in any subject.

On Wednesday 26th Coláiste Chill Mhantáin U 16gaelic footballer team were played in the Leinster Junior C Football Qualifier Blitz in Ballinakill. This was a three match round robin competition where our opponents were Presentation College, Bray; Scoil Chonglais, Balintin glass and Gaelcholáiste na Mara, Arklow.

Coláiste Chill Mhantáin had a resounding win in the first game against Presentation College, where we won on a score line of 4:4 to 2:2. This victory buoyed the team with confidence when entering into the second match against Scoil Chonglais. The players played with great commitment and won the second match on a scoreline of 3:5 to 1:5, with excellent team performance from all players.

The final game turned out to be the final in the competition. Despite the two earlier victories Coláiste Chill Mhantáin missed some early chances and Gaelcholáiste na Mara capitalised on this to emerge victorious. Overall the team played with great enthusiasm and team spirit.

A gentle reminder that all First Year students that €25 needs to be given to their Mentor on or before Friday December 5th.
