KILCOOLE GAA club hosted a celebration dinner to commemorate the 60th anniversary of their last Senior football championship win in 1954.

Guests of honour on the night were the surviving members of the team and their next of kin.

With Chairman Bernard Collier, and club secretary Seamus Finn, the legendary captain from 1954, Jimmy Gammell, presented an award to his teammates in attendance - Ned Keegan, Danny Hatton, Jimmy Hatton and Sean Kelly.

Awards were also presented to the families and representatives of the other team members and selectors.

Over 150 people were in attendance for dinner and special mention must go to the organising committee, the caterer, the decorators and the many volunteers who helped make this a memorable night for everyone. Celebrations continued into the wee small hours and a great night was had by all.

The club would also to ask for assistance in tracking down any descendants or family members of ‘Sonny’ Atkinson.

Sonny emigrated not long after the victory and was the only person for whom we were unable to find a family member or relative. His memento will be put on display in the clubhouse
