ARKLOW’S Shanice Just has won the finals of the Ladies Intermediate Boxing Championships at 63kg in the National Stadium last Saturday.

Shanice’s opponent in the final was Sarah Kiely from Dungarvan Boxing Club.

Shanice was cautious during the first round but scored with solid jabs to edge into the lead.

In round two the Arklow girl become more dominant to force the Dungarvin girl on the back foot and scored with solid right crosses.

In the third it was again Shanice who scored with solid clean combinations and in the fourth and final round Shanice kept Kiely at distance to win clearly.

What made Shanice’s win more impressive was that she was unable to train following her semi-final win due to a severe head cold.

Shanice now starts training for the Womens Elite Championships in January and joining her in the men’s section of the Elite Championships will be Fergal Redmond and Sean Allen.

The girls’ Michael Andrews Championships commence next Saturday and Arklow will have four entries: Isabelle Dempsey, Leanne Doyle, Amy Whitmore, and and Shannon Just (sister of Shanice).

The competition includes all clubs from Leinster and Dublin and is second only to the Irish Championships.

We wish them all well.
