Third final for Baltinglass
SCOIL CHONGLAIS from Baltinglass reached their third final in the leinster Rugby Junior Development Cup in as many years by defeating Patrician College Newbridge by 24 points to 0 in Carlow Rugby Club last Wednesday.
The school is enjoying a huge rise in popularity in resent years since its introduction only 10 years ago. With help from the IRFU through its ‘Play Rugby programmes’ the profile of the game had been raised and the growth and development of the game outside of the traditional centres has been huge.
Scoil Chonglais now fields three teams in the Leinster Rugby School competitions and often hasn’t room on the bus to bring all the boys who want to play.
The school’s head of rugby, Joe Dolan, knows they will not have things their own way n the final against St. Cillian’s of Kells who have breezed trough the top side of the draw amassing some big scores along the way.
“The Kells boys have had some big wins and don’t seem to conceded many scores it should be a good game. We have a young team with no fear. We are learning all the time,” said Dolan.
Enroute to the final the Baltinglass school beat Cregan College from Gorey, Colaiste Lorcain from Castledermot and Wicklow Community School.
They will now travel to Dublin to play St. Paul’s in the first round of the Leinster Rugby Schools Duff Cup with the chance to mix it with big boys of schools rugby in the Capital.
