One of the highlights of our Business and Enterprise week last week was the visit by First years to the Bank and Credit Union in Greystones last Friday. Getting to experience first hand the work of these institutions and meet the people who work there helps our students to get to grips with the Business Studies curriculum in a real-life way and gives them a better understanding of what they are studying.

The week overall was a great success, particularly the visits to CCA from our speakers, who included Margaret Hoctor of Kilmullen Farm, Therese Moylan from IADT and Clodagh O’Brien of Druids Glen Resort. Students thoroughly enjoyed the week. Many thanks to the Business Department for organising this series of events.

A huge congratulations to the Junior Camogie team on their win against St Kevin’s, beating them by ten goals and three points to zero. Jade Byrne scored two goals and a point, Rachel Crimes scored a point, Caitlin O’Toole four goals and one point and Sophia Smirnova four goals. The player of the match was Caitlin O’Toole. Well done to everyone who took part!

On Thursday 20th November, our First year gaelic footballers travelled to Bray Emmets grounds and took part in a 9-a-side blitz. There were enough players for two teams, so everyone got plenty of football. There were some great performances throughout the day, most notably defenders Cian McHugh and Christopher Murphy, midfielders Daniel Testa and Oisin Cullen and the free scoring Jack Elliot.

The panel on the day was : Kamil Pawlak, Diarmuid Murphy, Ciaran Keogh, Cian McHugh, Ciaran Crimes, Sam Ireland, Adam Gallagher, Daniel Testa, Christo- pher Murphy, Cormac Timmons, Oisin Cullen, Jack Elliot, Kalom Murdiff, Fionn Mansfield, Sean Leacy, Oisin Cosgrave, Cian Creagh, Ryan Murray and Alec Green. Well done to all including trainee bainisteoirs from TY Conor Toole and Luke Evans.

Well done to the Under 15s CCA soccer team who drew 1-1 against St Brendan s last week, with a last minute equaliser scored by team captain Charley Delaney Byrne. Man of the Match was Liam Odlum. Well done to all players.

STEPS, an initiative set up by Engineers Ireland to encourage second-level students to take up science and engineering subjects and careers, visited CCA recently to encourage our TY students to explore the world of science and engineering. Engineer Graham Parker spoke to the students about the variety and excitement of a career in the science and engineering fields, and then encourage students to take part in some practical, problem-solving activities. The students hugely enjoyed solving the problems and working on their own initiative. Many thanks to Ms McDonagh for organising the visit.

Well done to everyone who entered the First year poetry competition. The standard was extremely high, and it was a hard task to judge and select three winners! The prizes went to Ellen Devlin, 1AWH, in first place; Jenitta Jimmy, 1AWH in second place, and Kelianne Coughlan, 1ERN, in third place. Well done to the girls and to all who took part.
