Fine wines for all at beer and wine festival in aid of the RNLI
CONNOISSEURS of fine wines and beers were in their element at Greystones Tennis Club recently as a special wine and beer fair was held there in aid of the RNLI.
A crowd of around 200 people arrived on the night to taste all manner of craft beers and wines for a great cause.
‘It was a great success,’ said Joe Taylor, secretary of the Greystones Branch of the RNLI. ‘We managed to raise €2,200 for the lifeboat in Wicklow and everyone had a great night. Denis Byrne of Cheers Off Licence in Delgany provided the beers and wines for tasting and people paid €10 for a ticket and got to taste all the beers and wines they wanted. I think there was a total of 70 wines there on the night, so there was quite a variety.’
The evening was put together by the Greystones and Newtown RNLI fundraising branch who were delighted with the turnout.
‘We’re fundraising all the time,’ said Joe. ‘ The organisation is completely voluntary and relies on people’s generosity. Unfortunately you only see it when there’s some kind of tragedy, but the RNLI do great work.’
