Arklow girls on the rise!

-

Two of Arklow’s up and coming young female boxers won the coveted Michael Andrews titles last weekend. Shannon Just won by walkover in her division while Leanne Doyle added this title to the Leinster title she won last year. Leanne’s opponent was Lauren Ryan of Kildare. After a slow start in round one, Leanne stepped up the pace and scored with good combinations in round two to take a good lead into the final round. Both girls went hammer and tongs in the last but it was Leanne who landed the most punches to win clearly. Both girls got a great ovation from the crowd for a contest of true grit. Isabelle Dempsey had a cracking contest with Leinster champion Cathlyn Loughrey from Ryston BC. After a bad first round Isabelle got back into the contest with a solid performance in round two but in the third the Kildare girl got back on top to win on points. The County Wicklow Amateur Boxing League continues on Sunday morning at 11am at Arklow Boxing Club. In the photo are: Anita Just, Shannon Just, Amy Whitmore, Leanne Doyle, Isabella Dempsey, and Linda Morgan. Well done girls!
