Dunne hat-trick helps Wicklow to first victory
WICKLOW Town A rocketed out of the relegation zone with their first win of the season in the most emphatic fashion.
Arklow Celtic A was the unfortunate victim at Finlay Park as they had eight goals smashed past them by a rampant Wicklow Town side.
Shane Dunne helped himself to the match ball with a hat-trick, David ‘DOC’ O’Connor grabbed two beauties and Eddie Kelly, John Connor and Brendan Cox all notched singles as they shot up to fourth spot in a tempestuous match that saw four men sent off over the 90 minutes.
Replacing Town in the bottom two is, bizarrely, reigning top flight champions Newtown United A. Much of that is owed to the fact that they’ve only been able to fulfil two matches all season.
Below them is St. Fergal’s AFC, who narrowly avoided defeat on Friday evening in a Battle of the Saints.
They welcomed St. Patrick’s to Ballywaltrim Recreational Park and snatched a last-gasp equaliser to earn their third point of the season.
Patrick Kennedy and Oscar Traynor man Ryan Cahill were on target for Pat’s, with Gary Kearns and Lee Hempenstall notching the goals that earned their side a third draw from five outings.
