Gun men burst into Ashford offices
TWO armed and masked gunmen burst their way into the office of an Ashford auctioneer last Friday but got away with nothing apart from a handbag belonging to the secretary.
The terrifying incident happened at Clarke Auctioneers at around 5 p.m. in the evening when the men ran into the premises and demanded money.
One of the men was brandishing a shotgun and ordered staff to lie on the floor. Frustrated at the fact that there was no money on the premises, the raiders grabbed a handbag and made their getaway.
A third man was waiting in an English registered VW Golf FTI which was stolen earlier in the day from Dun Laoghaire.
The men drove along the Roundwood road and then doubled back through Ballyhenry where they had a second vehicle waiting.
It is believed that they then made off in the direction of Dublin.
In another raid of the Ashford area during the early hours of Saturday morning, property valued at up to £10,000 was stolen from the local co-op.
The raiders drove through an entrance a short distance down the road from the building and then disconnected the alarm before breaking in by forcing a door at the rear.
