Shillelagh rally stuns Conary

Bray People - - SPORT -

ASHFORD Rovers B and Conary United will be sharing the top of the charts at Christmas. United had the chance to claim it outright but their plans unravelled against a resurgent, never-say-die Shillelagh United.

Stephen McCauley, Eoin Murtagh, Pascal O’Reilly and Andy Doyle had probably thought they’d done enough as their goals had the Rooster’s Park men leading 2-4 with only 10 minutes remaining. But they hadn’t expected the Ballard men to pull another goal back and then steal a point thanks to Mark Collins’ leveller right at the death.

PJ O’Keefe (2) and Jimmy Behan (penalty) were the home side’s other scorers. That point only lifts Conary level on points with Ashford Rovers B, who have a superior goal difference. Form side Shillelagh will spend the festive period in fourth place.

There were no other matches in Division 2B. Rathnew AFC B showed up at the Vartry Grounds to take on Roundwood but after completing their warm-up, they were informed the hosts only had eight men so they returned home with three points in the bag.
