Burglaries up prior to Christmas week
THERE were a total of 17 burglaries in the Bray and Greystones area over the course of the past week. This is according to Garda Declan Lynch of Bray Garda Station. Of that amount, nine of them were in Bray and eight in Greystones.
Garda Lynch said that while this is much higher than an average week in the summer or other times of the year, it is around average for the weeks before Christmas.
Some of those burglaries have included bicycles being taken from garden sheds.
Garda Lynch said that in the weeks after Christmas the numbers are expected to significantly reduce again.
Darker evenings are a factor in such incidences occurring at this time of year.
Opportunism is also a factor, with thieves knowing that there will be valuables at the properties and trying to see if doors and windows might be unlocked.
