Cairdeas visit to Leinster House
FINE Gael TD for Wicklow and Minister of State, Simon Harris facilitated a trip to Leinster House for Cairdeas Clubhouse, Bray.
The group were welcomed to Leinster House last Thursday.
The clubhouse is a community of people with mental health difficulties who work together towards recovery and provides an environment of support and acceptance.
Some of their activities include a computer workshop, art and DIY.
The Leinster House visit comprised of an overview of the workings of both the Dáil and Seanad and also the history behind Leinster House itself.
Speaking after meeting the group last week, Minister Harris said ‘I am very pleased that Bray’s Cairdeas Clubhouse has asked me to facilitate this tour of Leinster House today.
‘Cairdeas Clubhouse is a fantastic organisation which allows members to work towards recovery in a friendly and open atmosphere.’
Minister Harris said that he will them early in the New Year to see first-hand the great work that is carried out for people with mental health difficulties in our community. ‘It is extremely important that as many Wicklow groups, schools and individuals as possible visit the Houses of the Oireachtas in order to see first-hand how the parliamentary process operates and to view their public representatives at work,’ said Simon.
‘I look forward to continuing to facilitate tours for such groups as the Cairdeas Clubhouse.’
