Declan O’Rourke will play at Mermaid Arts Centre on Thursday January 8.
O’Rourke was a latecomer to the Dublin singer-songwriter wcene.
But in his mid-twenties, within months of discovering Dublin’s bustling songwriter open-mic circuit, O’Rourke found himself in the mix with the likes of Paddy Casey, Gemma Hayes, Damien Rice and many other artistes. Over a decade after the release of his first album, Declan comes to Mermaid. Hear him perform hits such as Galileo, which Paul Weller singled out as the song he wished he’d written.
Meanwhile, music lovers will be glad to hear that another Irish heavyweight will be at Mermaid later in the season. Dub Damien Dempsey will play at the theatre in April.
The genre-jumping songrwiter’s music has a bit of reggae, some trad, a bit of rock and a pinch of folk.
Damo is part of a rich tradition of Irish singers from Luke Kelly to Ronnie Drew, Christy Moore to Andy Irvine.
