Dean’s on a mission to get at the Carters
EastEnders on? What’sgoing
Most of the Carters haven’t been in Walford for long enough to know that a traditional family Christmas in the Vic usually involves at least one explosive row and someone sobbing into their stuffing – but they are about to find out. And given that Linda and Shirley have both been keeping a very big secret, they could be serving up a ticking time bomb along with the turkey. At least one of the clan’s skeletons threatens to fall out of the cupboard as Stacey works out what happened between Dean and Linda. The salon owner is initially confused when his girlfriend dumps him, but after seeing her with the landlady, he works out what has happened, and warns Linda that unless she wants him to share his version of events with Mick, she needs to tell Stacey it was all one big misunderstanding. She agrees, on the condition that he stays away from her family. With the crisis seemingly averted, the Carters can get on with enjoying the big day, as Stan shows his romantic side and transforms the pub’s barrel store into a winter wonderland for Cora’s benefit, while Mick plans a grand gesture of his own. But of course, all this festive happiness can’t last as a drunken Dean arrives to make threats, and Aunt Babe and Shirley are horrified to discover that Sylvie has also been invited to dinner. It’s also an emotional Christmas for the Beales – the festive spirit affects Jane so much, that she ends up in bed with Ian. She asks him to keep their night of passion quiet, but he can’t resist letting slip to Alfie, and by the end of the day the gossip is all around the Square. Meanwhile, thoughts of Lucy are never far away, especially when Cindy finds a sinister present for baby Beth underneath the tree, and Emma discovers someone’s sent her video footage that suggests one Albert Square resident hasn’t been honest about their movements on Good Friday. Over at the Cotton residence, Dot gets a most unwelcome Christmas surprise when she walks in on Nick and Yvonne in a compromising position. They plead with her not to tell Charlie, pointing out that Nick will soon be leaving anyway. But given that Nick managed to come back from the dead, Ronnie shouldn’t be so sure that giving him a ferry ticket and a bundle of cash will be enough to get rid of him… Just to prove it’s not going to be all doom and gloom in Walford over the festive season, Kush makes it his personal mission to get Shabnam into the Christmas mood, even accepting Fat Boy’s challenge to kiss her by the end of the day. And New Year also sees the welcome return of funloving Kim. However, she’s in for a shock when she learns just how much has changed in her absence.
