Bray People - - NEWS -

VINCENT Browne will give Wicklow’s TDs a grilling in the coming weeks, with ‘ The People’s Debate.’

This January Browne will be going on the road with ‘ The People’s Debate’ kicking off in Wicklow on Wednesday, January 14.

Deputy Anne Ferris (Lab), Stephen Donnelly (Ind), Billy Timmins (Ind), Andrew Doyle (FG) and Minister Simon Harris will be examined as part of the programme.

The debate will take place in front of a live audience. A spokeswoman said that almost all of the TDs have confirmed at this point that they will attend with just one RSVP pending. The show will be filmed the previous Saturday at the Grand Hotel in Wicklow Town. This is the first in a series of programmes covering the 40 constituencies in the run up to the next general election. Other constituencies to feature in January are Clare, Galway West and Finglas. In each one of the 40 Irish constituencies there will be a town hall debate with a local audience. The programme intends to call TDs to account, querying them along with declared candidates in the next election on what they are promising. Each show will include an audit of every sitting TD and a socio-economic profile of the constituencies.

The new ‘on the road’ People’s Debate will see 50 per cent of seating allocated to members of political parties and political groupings and the other 50 per cent occupied by the general public, not affiliated to any political party or organisation.
