Young peo­ple sleep­ing out to help home­less

A group of young peo­ple put them­selves through hard­ship in Grey­stones to help the home­less.

The youth branch of St Vincent de Paul did a sleep out in the town on the Sun­day be­fore Christ­mas for a full 24 hours.

They stayed out­side ‘Vincent’s’ in Grey­stones from 3 p.m. on Sun­day un­til the same time on Mon­day col­lect­ing money for the home­less.

Peo­ple gave ex­tremely gen­er­ously, with much pa­per money go­ing into the buck­ets along with what­ever change peo­ple could af­ford.

For ever €1 do­nated, 90c is spent di­rectly sup­port­ing in­di­vid­u­als and fam­i­lies in need and 10c is spent on gen­er­at­ing funds and ad­min­is­tra­tion.

Young SVP pro­vides op­por­tu­ni­ties to en­gage in so­cial ac­tion in lo­cal com­mu­ni­ties and en­cour­ages per­sonal and so­cial de­vel­op­ment.
