New Year’s Day sea swim for charities
THE annual sea swim will happen tomorrow, Thursday, at midday opposite the Strand Hotel.
This will be sure to blow away any cobwebs left from a late New Year’s Eve. Minister Simon Harris has told organisers he will be there for the 32nd Lions Club charity sea swim.
Set up for the dual purposes of having some festive fun and raising funds for local charities, this yearly event has to date raised €304,804 for a long list of worthy causes.
The figure from last year was €10,320, so let’s hope we do even better in 2015.
This year’s chosen charities are Carers for Carers, Bray; Bray Stroke Club; Bray Poor Relief Fund; Bray Lions’ Senior Citizen’s Fund and Enable Ireland, Bray and Wicklow.
All funds raised go in full to the charities with no costs deducted.
Previous charities to receive funds include Bray Meals on Wheels, the women’s refuge, Bray Cancer Support, Marino Clinic, Lincara, Open Door, Vincent de Paul, Hi Rez Youth Club and many more.
Many of the swimmers turn out in fancy dress for what is always a very enjoyable and colourful event.
