Many thanks to all who contribute to these local notes and those who read them. A very happy Christmas to you all and best wishes for 2015.

We are taking a break till 17th January 2015. Wishing all our loyal customers happy and peaceful New Year.

Well it’s the Christmas holiday period for the next couple of weeks though some coaches may organise the odd friendly in order to keep the boredom at bay. As like every year 2014 has been a year full of ups and downs but we’ve got to the end hopefully that little bit wiser and also a couple of pieces of silverware for the trophy cabinet. Three of our teams i.e. Under 11’s, 13’s and girls Under 18’s sit perched at the top of their respective leagues and hope fully thy remain there when the season resumes after the festive period.

The WDSL will be back playing matches on the weekend of Sat.3rd/Sun.4th January 2015 so there will be games for the 10-13’s age groups. The Under 8’s& 9’s will have indoor football (Futsal) from the weekend of 10th/11th January 2015. Sat.17th/Sun.18th January 2015 will see the Metropolitan Girls League start back for our Under 18’s team.

It took to Week 9 for us to get a winner for our latest Last Man Standing but we managed it and congratulations to Colin Keenan who netted the €360 prize pot. We will be starting our next competition on the weekend of Sat.10th/ Sun.11th January 2015. If you wish to enter the competition let any of our committee members or coaches know and they will put your name in. Remember the more players we have in this competition the more money we will be able to give out. Once again thank you to everybody who has supported this fundraiser so far this year.

In the week where the man in the red suit and white beard will be delivering presents to boys & girls everywhere, three of our players may get a present or two as they celebrate a birthday in the coming week. Naoise Lowe and Matthew Boyce from the Under 8’s and Simon Plant from the Under 11’s are all a year older. Happy birthday everyone from all at Newtown Juniors F.C.

The club is holding a sponsored Indoor Football Marathon on the last Saturday in January (31st) 10am-8pm in the Newtown Community Centre with three main objectives. (1) Will be to raise funds for the club where every player will receive a sponsor card for the day to try and gather as many sponsors as possible. (2) With it getting harder to attain sponsorship to buy jerseys etc for teams we plan to use some of the money raised to purchase training tops for all players in the club and finally (3) we are not looking for sponsors to give fortunes but €2 per line would be excellent. Every sponsor of a line will then be entered into a free draw for numerous prizes such as golf vouchers, fuel vouchers and an odd dinner for 2. We have decided to replace the Christmas draw with this fundraiser this year and see how we get on. This fundraiser will only work if every player/ parent supports it and no doubt everyone will. Sponsor cards will be distributed to all teams shortly.

Finally may we take this opportunity to wish all our players, parents, coaches, supporters, sponsers, opponents, referees and league officials a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We are always on the lookout for coaches and committee members to join the club especially to help out in the area of fundraising among other things.
