Simple changes can make a big difference

WHAT do dark circles under the eyes mean, what can help dry flaky scalp and what can be done to stop nail biting? These are some questions that I have been asked about.

Common reasons for having dark circles under your eyes include: lack of sleep, food intolerance, not drinking enough fluids, or your kidneys may need some support. Your eyes may also look puffy, if this is the case drink plenty of fluids, up to 1/12 to 2 litres are recommended, including herbal teas. Dandelion, or golden rod tea will help the kidneys. Cut back on salt, sugar, fizzy drinks, coffee, and highly processed foods.

Dry, flaky and itchy scalp is annoying, and embarrassing. The first place to look is at your hair care products. Check to see if they contain nasty chemicals. Choose products that contain natural ingredients. Several customers have tried Dr. Bronner, Baby Mild, Castille, liquid soap and are delighted with the difference it has made. The beauty of Dr. Bronner liquid soaps is that they can be used as a hair, face or body wash. Ingredients include olive oil, coconut oil, and almond oil, which are natural and gentle. Nutritional Therapist, Christine Meehan suggested that if this doesn’t work to try a Zinc supplement, as a deficiency is associated with dry, itchy scalp.

The remedy for nail biting depends on the cause. Habit, worry, anxiety, boredom are reasons why people bite their nails. If it’s a habit, then rubbing Tea Tree oil or garlic cloves into the tips of the nails might prevent you from biting. Some people wear light gloves at night to stop them biting their nails. If it’s stress, anxiety or worry then Bach Flower Remedies will help you cope a little better. Your local health store should be able to make a mix for you. If not send me an email or pop into the shop to discuss it with you.
