Dicing with danger at DART crossing

The level crossing for the Dart service near Bray Railway Station has become a focus for dangerous pranks and dares. Youths leaving nearby discos and pubs after a night of drinking wait at the level crossing for a train to approach and then run in front of it just seconds before it reaches the crossing. To carry out these dares they ignore the nearby footbridge provided for crossing the line and deliberately force their way past the crash barriers. These incidents have become so frequent in recent weeks that the SIE staff at nearby Daly Station have become very concerned about a possible accident. ‘It’s really very dangerous and if one of these juveniles was to fall while running in front of a train they could be seriously injured or even killed,’ said the station master. ‘ They seem to do this as an act of bravado to show off to their friends, but it is a really stupid and dangerous thing to do.’
