ARREST MADE FOLLOWING LARGE-SCALE MANHUNT
SUSPECTED GUNMAN SPOTTED BY GARDAI IN ESTATE
A MAN in his 20s was arrested on Monday afternoon following a three-day manhunt involving the Garda helicopter.
The suspect is being questioned by gardai in connection with an attempted shooting which occurred at Bray’s Oldcourt Park last month.
The intended target in the incident was not shot as the gun jammed at the scene.
Gardai on mobile patrol saw the man suspected of the attempted shooting last Friday coming out of a house in Dargle Heights, Fassaroe, in Bray.
He made his escape by going through the back door of the house and running through a series of gardens.
As well as monitoring the area by helicopter, gardai carried out a number of searches of cars and properties. The search continued for over the weekend.
The individual was finally apprehended on Monday at 1.45 p.m.
A SUSPECT in a botched shooting was arrested in Bray on Monday following a full-scale manhunt which began on Friday.
The man in his 20s was arrested in a house in Dargle Heights, Fassaroe, in Bray.
Gardaí on mobile patrol happened to see the man coming out of a house in Bray last Friday.
He gave pursuit and an operation ensued. The suspect fled out the back door of the property and escaped through a number of back gardens.
The garda helicopter was involved in the search over the town and gardai carried out a number of searches of the area.
The search continued throughout the weekend until the suspect was arrested on Monday at 1.45 p.m.
He continues to be held at Bray Garda Station, with a court appearance expected in the coming days.
According to Garda Declan Lynch of Bray Garda Station, the 27-year-old man is from the Bray area and known to gardai.
The attempted shooting occurred in Oldcourt Park, otherwise known as Old Soldier’s Road, on the morning of Friday, April 8, at around 7.20 a.m.
A gunman tried to fire a number of shots at a man in his 30s, however the intended target was not injured as the weapon did not go off.
‘ This is the story that we had. We believe there was a struggle then,’ said Garda Lynch.
While some reports linked the shooting attempt to a convicted rapist who is the chief suspect in a murder attempt dating back to November 2014, Garda Lynch said that he was ‘not inclined to comment.’
