Deputy Casey welcomes ‘more powerful Dail’

Bray People - - NEWS -

FIRST-TIME Deputy Pat Casey has welcomed the formation of a new minority Government, saying that it will be ‘ truly accountable to the peoples’ elected representatives’.

While disappointed that Fianna Fáil were unable to form a Government, Deputy Casey said that after 70 days, the people of Ireland needed a Government, adding that this was a ‘new era for Irish politics’.

‘ This more powerful Dáil allows Government to be truly accountable to the peoples’ elected representatives,’ said Deputy Casey. ‘It allows all TDs to stand up and be counted in finding solutions to our problems, not just sitting on the sidelines and cynically opposing everything while proposing nothing. There will be no hiding place for showmanship, nor should there be. The people deserve better. Our problems are too serious for fantasy land solutions based on anger and jargon.’

‘I also accept that there are many challenges ahead and this new politics can fail. I will work night and day to ensure that it does not,’ he said.
