Dominican College, Wicklow
Congratulations to Ailbhe Flynn and Lauren Ryan who made it through to the Wicklow final of the mini-company competition. There are 35 entrants through from a wide range of schools across Wicklow so it is a great achievement for them to have made it this far. The final is on March 8 in Clermont Campus. We wish the students and their teacher, Ms Lydon, the very best of luck.
Students from Mr Doyle’s MS Academy class and Ms Kelly’s Coding class visited the IADT on Monday to participate in a brief course on soldering and programming. They really enjoyed the experience and learned a lot about the world of programming. Aspiring gaming experts, take note.
TY students and their parents attended the parent-teacher meeting on Thursday evening. Ms Mason gave an excellent presentation on subject choices, LCVP and college entry requirements and advised parents individually where there were particular questions. Parents and students then spoke to teachers from the different subject departments to find out about the benefits and challenges of each subject at senior cycle, and to answer any queries. Thanks to Ms Wilson and all the staff and students who made this a very worthwhile meeting.
Katie and Choe O’Sullivan competed in the inter-schools competition in Barnadown this weekend. Katie came third in the Derby class and Chloe just missed out on being placed in the 1.10 metre class. Well done, girls.
DCW students are busily clearing out their worn and loved clothes, shoes and bags to upcycle them in a Green Bag collection which is kindly organised by the parents’ association. All students receive a green bag to help in the clearout, and the bags may be returned to the school on seventh or March 8.
Once returned to Liberties recycling, the school receive a donation for each bag collected. Thanks to the parents’ association for organising this great initiative.
TRANSITION YEAR TALK
Parents of third Year students entering TY next year attended an information meeting on Tuesday night to hear about the TY programme and the kinds of learning the students are expected in. Emma Hanlon, Jessica Mernagh, Sophie Cadwell and Yasmine Abba addressed the audience with reflections on how much they enjoyed the subjects, modules, outings and of course the school Musical. Thanks to Ms Wilson for organising the event.
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
Students from 1 Emerald visited St Patrick’s church in Wicklow on Friday with Ms Gillespie to mark World Day of Prayer.
EASTER EGG DROP
First Year students took part in our first ever Egg Drop. This was a fun activity organised by Ms Cremin and Mr O’Brien but the activity of course had a mathematical and scientific learning experience to it. Thanks to all who took part.
