HOLY REDEEMER PAR­ISH

Wel­come: We ex­tend a very warm wel­come to the 129 chil­dren who will join us at the Ta­ble of the Lord dur­ing the mid­day Masses on Sun­days May 15, May 22, and May 29. May they al­ways feel wel­come and at home in our Church Com­mu­nity of Holy Redeemer.

Chil­dren’s Com­mu­nion Choir: We are in need of some new voices for the Choir. If you are over 8 and would like to sing at the Com­mu­nion Masses on May 15 and May 22. We are con­tin­u­ing re­hearsals this Sun­day af­ter the 10.30 a.m. Mass in the Youth Cen­tre. All are wel­come!

Lour­des Pil­grim­age Septem­ber 16 to Septem­ber 7 to Septem­ber 12 : The par­ish will once again join the Dioce­san Pil­grim­age to Lour­des in Septem­ber. The fully in­clu­sive price is €19pps. Cross­care: The an­nual Col­lec­tion for CROSS­CARE Youth Ser­vices – So­cial Sup­port Agency of the Catholic Arch­dio­cese of Dublin will take place at all the masses this week­end. It will re­place the nor­mal Share Col­lec­tion. Cross­care pro­vide a wide range of fo­cused sup­ports and pro­grammes aimed at em­pow­er­ing peo­ple to achieve their own po­ten­tial. Our work is per­son cen­tred, rights based and sup­ports peer led ini­tia­tives that give peo­ple the power to make changes in their own lives.

OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE

Golden Ju­bilee of Priest­hood: You are cor­dially in­vited to celebrate the Golden Ju­bilee of Priest­hood of Fr Teddy Downes who served as a cu­rate in Our Lady Queen of Peace. Mass at St Joseph’s Church, Val­ley­mount, Co. Wick­low, at 7 p.m. on Fri­day, May 20,.

First Holy Com­mu­nion: We pray for the girls and boys who will be cel­e­brat­ing the sacra­ment of First Holy Com­mu­nion in our Church this Sun­day and on Sun­day, May 22.

QOP YOUTH CLUB

Queen of Peace Ad­ven­ture Youth Club had 40-two mem­bers swim­ming and play­ing foot­ball in shore­line on Fri­day. This was the last of these par­tic­u­lar ac­tiv­i­ties till next Oc­to­ber.

From May 3 till Septem­ber 20 the club will be hav­ing water sports which will in­clude ca­noe­ing, body board­ing, pad­dle board­ing, coas­t­eer­ing, and snorkelling. Other events will be Hostelling, and a trip to Clara Fun Park, More ca­noe in­struc­tors are ur­gently needed. For de­tails call Al­bert at 087 6756439.

DIVING CLUB

Wick­low Aqua­nauts Sub-Aqua Club (Bray Divers) wel­comes new trainee ju­nior snorkel­ers Nathan Nolan, and Fionn Brien. There are more places avail­able and the club ex­pects these to be filled within the next two weeks. Lec­tures, pool and sea train­ing will be­gin and con­clude in May. At least 10 snorkels will be ar­ranged dur­ing the sea­son.

IR­ISH FILM SCREEN­ING

Canola Pic­tures in as­so­ci­a­tion with the Ir­ish Whale and Dol­phin Group (IWDG) will screen the film ‘The Hump­back Whales of Cape Verde’ as part of a unique col­lab­o­ra­tion with the li­braries of Ire­land. This Ir­ish made film will be shown to­mor­row (Thurs­day) at 7 p.m. in Bray. Li­brary, Eglin­ton Road, Bray, and is one of a lim­ited num­ber of screen­ings in li­braries around

Ire­land. Ad­mis­sion is free but as places are lim­ited these will be al­lo­cated on a first come ba­sis.

LO­CAL HIS­TORY TALKS

Bray Li­brary in as­so­ci­a­tion with Sun­beam House, are host­ing a se­ries of six 60-minute lo­cal his­tory talks at 2 p.m. on con­sec­u­tive Fri­days deal­ing with as­pects of Bray and County Wick­low his­tory, pre­sented by lo­cal his­to­ri­ans Brian White and James Scan­nell from the Bray Cualann His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety.

The se­ries con­tin­ues this Fri­day with ‘From Grand Jury to County Coun­cil ; Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Struc­tures in County Wick­low’ pre­sented’ by James Scan­nell, with Brian White pre­sent­ing the fi­nal two talks on Fri­day, May 20, – ‘Trade/In­dus­try’, con­clud­ing on Fri­day, May 27, with ‘Ge­neal­ogy Records/Fam­ily Re­search Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment’. All are wel­come and ad­mis­sion is free.

James Scan­nell will be the guest speaker for the Thurs­day, May 19, meet­ing of the Bray Cualann His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety, the lo­cal his­tory so­ci­ety for Bray and North Wick­low, at which he pre­sented his lec­ture ‘The Pic­ture Post­cards of John Hinde’ at 8 p.m. in the Kin­sale Room of the Royal Ho­tel, Main Street, Bray. an­nual Mem­ber­ship of the Bray Cualann His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety is €15 and cov­ers 2 Adults+2 Chil­dren.

The So­ci­ety’s an­nual out­ing will take place on Sun­day, May 22, vis­it­ing the sites as­so­ci­ated with 1916 in Wick­low. The Tour will cost €5 and will in­clude Bus, morn­ing tea or cof­fee and ad­mis­sion fees. This tour which has re­ceived fund­ing from 1916-2016 Fund and Wick­low County Coun­cil, is now fully booked. To­mor­row (Thurs­day) Ark­low lo­cal his­to­rian Jim Rees will launch ‘Re­volt in Co. Wick­low: A His­tory of County Wick­low 1913 to 1913’ at 7.15 p.m. in Bray Town Hall, Main Street, Bray.

Pub­lished by the Old Bray So­ci­ety with fund­ing as­sis­tance from 1916-2016 Fund and Wick­low County Coun­cil, this pub­li­ca­tion in­cludes ar­ti­cles con­trib­uted by Jim Rees, Dr Ruan O’Don­nell, Henry Cairns, John Fin­lay, James Scan­nell, Eva Ó Cathaoir, and Robert But­ler. Copies will be on sale on the launch and from the Town Hall Book Shop, Florence Road, Bray.

GALA CON­CERT

The Bray Choral So­ci­ety Gala 30th An­niver­sary Con­cert is on this Satur­day at 8 p.m. in the church of the Most Holy Redeemer, fea­tur­ing Gounod: Messe Solen­nelle de Sainte Cé­cile Bizet: Te Deum and Opera Cho­ruses. Tick­ets: €20 and €16 con­ces­sions.
