TG4 are mak­ing a Doc­u­men­tary about films made in Ire­land which will in­clude Michael Collins, Brave­heart, Into the West, etc. which were made in the Rath­drum area and will fea­ture in the pro­gramme.

St Col­man’s Res­i­den­tial Care Cen­tre in Rath­drum got a ma­jor boost re­cently when they re­opened Heather Rest (Unit D) which was out of com­mis­sion for some time due to the Health cut­backs.

The ex­tra 12 beds and ad­di­tional ser­vices will pro­vide the re­quired en­vi­ron­men­tal space for reg­u­lar pa­tients and respite pa­tients and will also help Staff in ser­vic­ing the very pop­u­lar Day Care Cen­tre and the Shel­tered House res­i­dents.

The news on the plans for the new Hospi­tal is also pos­i­tive. In a re­cent re­view of the plans it is to go for sign­ing off and it is all sys­tems go for the 8.2 mil­lion First Phase of the project.

This devel­op­ment is warmly wel­comed by the Man­age­ment and Staff at St Col­man’s who con­tinue their phi­los­o­phy of re­spect­ing the dig­nity and unique worth of each res­i­dent, fos­ter­ing a holis­tic ap­proach in all as­pects of care, pro­mot­ing the in­de­pen­dence and well-be­ing of res­i­dents phys­i­cally, men­tally, emo­tion­ally, so­cially and spir­i­tu­ally.

The qual­ity of life is main­tained and pro­moted to the fullest ex­tent pos­si­ble for the res­i­dents by the wide range of mean­ing­ful op­por­tu­ni­ties and ac­tiv­i­ties that are avail­able to them. St Col­man’s has provided a unique ser­vice of care in the area for many years and the new devel­op­ment will en­hance this ser­vice for many years to come.


Well done to Clara Col­man on win­ning the un­der-10 Co. T/F 500M re­cently. Also to Se­nior mem­ber Robert Mur­phy on a great per­for­mance in the Manch­ester Marathon. Train­ing takes place in the Rugby Grounds for Boys and Girls at 6 p.m. New mem­bers wel­come.


Rath­drum. Laragh and Gle­nealy Par­ish will host a Sale of Work in the RDA. Hall, Rath­drum next Satur­day, May 14, from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. Stalls will in­clude cakes, jam, bric-a-brac, plants, books and much more. Raf­fle will take place at 4 p.m. health.

Set Danc­ing con­tin­ues ev­ery Thurs­day night in Ka­vanagh’s Lounge from 9 p.m. till 11 p.m. with mu­sic this month by the O’Kane fam­ily. Come along and join us for a night of good fun, great ex­er­cise and a very so­cial night out. New­com­ers al­ways wel­come and great way to meet some lo­cals. Cost for night of danc­ing and en­ter­tain­ment is still only €5.
