Countywide coffee morning delivers over €70,000 for worthy causes

Bray People - - NEWS -

Representatives of Wicklow’s five cancer support centres and the Wicklow Hospice Foundation were in Bray on Friday for the presentation of a total of €71,546.37 at the East Coast FM studios.

This money was raised through the station’s eighth annual Wicklow Wide Coffee Morning in April, along with other events including bag packs, a music quiz and the publication of the Wicklow Calendar.

The previous year the final amount was over €60,000 and in 2014 more than €50,000 so the campaign has been growing with each year.

Founder of the event Claire Darmody said that this success is down to the generosity of people who run their own events alongside those in the main venues around the county.

On Friday, April 8, eleven main venues and many other satellite venues provided tea, coffee, cakes and entertainment while the people of Wicklow supported their vital cancer support services. There were venues all over the county, from Bray and Greystones to Arklow, Wicklow, Blessington, Aughrim and Newtown.

Founder Claire Darmody hands over the cheque to representatives of the cancer support centres.
