Senior action saw our Saturday team lose 5-3 away to Swords Celtic. This result means the North Dublin side have now opened up a fourpoint gap in second place in the league table.

Joe Quinn nabbed his first of the campaign, Maurice Dunne scored his 16th of the season from the penalty spot with top scorer Ciaran McGettigan firing home his 21st of the campaign.

Midweek action for the Juniors started on Tuesday night with the Under-12As recording an excellent 4-0 away win over Arklow Utd. Mark Hodgkinson scored twice with Tom Hodgkinson and Jordan Younger firing home one each to keep them very much in the hunt for a place in the Premier Shield final.

The Under-12Cs went down to a very strong St Patricks side. In truth, the girls gave a 100 per cent but the physically bigger Avoca side were just too strong.

Our Under-13Bs put themselves in pole position to make it to their Shield final when they made it five wins from five when they defeated league champions elect St Anthonys in their own backyard.

Ben Free and Noah Sheridan both nabbed a brace each with Scott Bushe and Luke Horan scoring one a piece in a fantastic 6-2 win, this was an excellent all round team performance from the lads.

Our Under-13As sealed their place in the Under-14 Division 1 Shield final when they narrowly defeated Newtown Juniors 2-1 in the Whitegates. This was a close game which could have went either way. After falling one behind Rovers came out in the second half to score twice through Adam O’Reilly and Harry Hodgkinson to claim all three points and a place in the final against Roundwood.

The Under-15s good form of late came to an end on Tuesday when they lost 5-0 away to Wolfe Tone. The lads never really reached the high standards they have set themselves of late as the Bray side ran out deserved winners.

On Wednesday, the Under-13Cs lost 3-1 to local neighbours Wicklow Town, in an exciting tussle the Town came out on top with both sides having plenty of chances. Ethan Allen scored the Rovers goal on the night.

Thursday saw our Under-12As secure three very important points in the Premier Shield when they defeated Wolfe Tone 4-1. Tom Hodgkinson hit a brace, Conor Hunter hit a single with Sean O’Meara firing home from the penalty spot to complete the scoring. This result means the lads leapfrog their opponents in the group.

If it was goals you were looking for Thursday night in the Whitegates was the place to be. Our Under-15s were involved in an 11-goal thriller with Wolfe Tone. Unfortunately for the lads they unluckily lost out 6-5 in a highly entertaining game to the same opponents that beat them 5-0 on Tuesday.

Jack Colaluca smashed in a well taken hat-trick, Luke Kelly and Philip Power scored one a piece in a game that kept the watching public on the edge of their seats right till the very end.

Weekend action on the junior front was at a minimum, the Under-12Bs lost 3-1 to table toppers Carnew in a game that didn’t affect the lads standing in the group but was a good work out for their up coming cup final. Rory Hannon scored his third of the season for Rovers in this game.

Congratulations to our Under-14Bs who powered their way to the Division 2 Shield final when they defeated second placed Arklow Town C 4-3 in Lamberton.

They have now won 11 and drawn two of their 13 games with one game remaining.

This game saw top scorer Thomas O’Neill bring his tally for the season to an incredible 46 goals after scoring all four Rovers goals.

This was a great team display and a well deserved final to look forward to, well done to the team, their manager Paul O’Brien and trainer Robbie Dover.

At the time of going to print our senior ladies team will have kicked off their season, everyone at Wicklow Rovers would like to wish Mandy and her girls the first best of luck for the new season.

The girls will play most of their games on Monday nights so if your looking for something to do why not come along and give the girls who are giving so much to the club a bit of support, they would be delighted to see you there to cheer them on. Good luck girls.

Also we would like to wish our Under-12Bs, 13As, 13Bs, 16As and 16Bs the very best of luck in their cup finals this coming weekend, good luck to everyone and enjoy the occasion.
