BRAVE GARDAÍ RESCUE MAN(70) FROM BURNING CAR IN GREYSTONES
SLEEPING MAN (70) HAD LEFT THE ENGINE RUNNING
TWO heroic gardai saved a man’s life when they pulled him from a burning car in Greystones.
A member of the public contacted Greystones at around 3 a.m. last Thursday morning.
Garda Susan Cronin and Garda David Brady attended the scene.
A 70-year-old Dublin man was asleep in the vehicle. He had left the engine running to keep warm and the car overheated.
When Garda Cronin and Garda Bolger arrived on the scene, the engine was on fire and the inside was consumed with smoke.
They noticed that there was a person still in the car.
One of them supressed the flames, while the other pulled the gentleman from the car.
They managed to remove him from the car and got him to safety before he sustained any injury.
He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital as a precaution.
The man returned to Greystones Garda Station later in the day after being released from hospital to thank the gardaí for saving his life.
‘He would not be alive today but for the vigilance of the lady who made that call and the brave actions from the gardaí,’ said a garda spokesman.
The incident happened in Greystones last Thursday morning.
