War ca­su­alty re­mem­bered

Grey­stones war ca­su­alty Cpl John Thomas Be­han is re­mem­bered in a book about Ir­ish­men who served in the RAF dur­ing World War Two.

Cpl Be­han was born in Grey­stones in 1916 and killed on board the air­craft car­rier HMS Il­lus­tri­ous on Jan- uary 10,1941. It came un­der sus­tained at­tack from Ger­man and Ital­ian air­craft while es­cort­ing a Malta bound con­voy past Si­cily.

He is one of 22 in­di­vid­u­als se­lected by John C He­witt for in­clu­sion in his book ‘Ire­land’s Avi­a­tor He­roes of World War two ‘, pub­lished by Mercier Press which was launched re­cently by Air Vice Marshall Niven in Belfast.
