Fire engine recovered
IN ONE of the most unusual crimes seen by gardaí in Baltinglass, two youths broke into the local fire station and made off with the fire engine early on Sunday morning.
At about 4.20 a.m., the two forced open the lock on the building at the square in Baltinglass, found keys to the fire engine and drove off in the vehicle.
A garda patrol car from Baltinglass station gave chase and eventually halted the fire engine in the Jobstown area.
Two teenagers were arrested and questioned by gardaí in Baltinglass. ‘It’s the first theft of a fire engine that I can recall in the area,’ remarked a garda spokesperson.
