Businsses get behind hospice
THE good in local communities in Wicklow was reflected in two recent cheque presentations to worthy causes, including Wicklow Hospice.
A most successful Wicklow Hospice Golf Outing, sponsored by Glenhaven Foods, took place in the beautiful surroundings of Woodenbridge Golf Club recently which raised a whopping €16,200 for the organisation.
A huge amount of work went into making the event a success and Wicklow Hospice organisers were thrilled to see such support.
Thanks have been extended to Woodenbridge Golf Club, to Edel and her team who prepared the delicious food and to Feel the Pinch, who provided the evening entertainment.
A special word of thanks has also gone to Glenhaven Foods for sponsorship, to all the businesses who sponsored raffle prizes and to everyone who gathered a team and hit the fairways.
Meanwhile, there has also been a good bit of fundraising activity at Avoca Recycling Centre which presented cheques for €2,064 to Wicklow Hospice and to Rathdrum Cancer Support Group this week.
The donations were the proceeds from the ever-popular clothing recycling bank at the centre which runs in aid of the two aforementioned groups and Avoca Senior Citizens,
A special appeal is being made to the community to consider donating unwanted items of clothing. Bags and stickers are available in Avondale Sports Rathdrum, BOI Wicklow Town, Londis in Aughrim, Rednagh Stores in Aughrim, Wicklow Hospice Office in Arklow (0402) 91310 and the Avoca Recycling Centre. Members of the public can drop their full bags to the clothing bank in Rathdrum, Avondale Sports, BOI in Wicklow Town, the Arklow Office 2B Abbey Lane, Arklow or to the Avoca Recycling Centre.
Thanks have been extended to Myles Doyle and all his team at the Avoca Recycling Centre who are the backbone of this great fundraiser for three very worthy charities. All proceeds are split between the three charities and provide much needed funds for each charity, plus much needed space in everybody’s wardrobes when the spring clean is finished!
If anyone is in the market for a fun activity to fill the dark winter evenings, Wicklow Hospice will be hosting a Strictly Come Dancing in the Arklow Bay Hotel over three nights.
