Cannabis plants worth €500k seized

A man ap­peared be­fore the courts last Fri­day in con­nec­tion with the dis­cov­ery of a 1,000-plant cannabis farm in Shankill.

Gar­dai seized a large quan­tity of cannabis plants and ar­rested a man fol­low­ing a search at a house at Heron­ford Lane, Shankill, last Tues­day.

As part of an on-go­ing op­er­a­tion tar­get­ing the cul­ti­va­tion of cannabis in the south Dublin area, Gardaí car­ried out the search of the house on the evening of Tues­day, June 14. They found more than 1,000 cannabis plants on the prop­erty. They dis­cov­ered 400 cannabis plants grow­ing on the ground floor and a fur­ther 700 in the base­ment of the house.

The seizure may have a street value, sub­ject to anal­y­sis, of in ex­cess of €500,000.

A man in his 30s was de­tained for a pe­riod at Shankill Garda Sta­tion be­fore ap­pear­ing in court on Fri­day.

The man in ques­tion was held un­der Sec­tion 2 of the Crim­i­nal Justice (Drug Traf­fick­ing) Act, 1996.

The house was sealed off last Tues­day evening and dur­ing Wed­nes­day. A tech­ni­cal ex­am­i­na­tion was car­ried out at the premises on Wed­nes­day.
