Busking event in aid of special little boy Jarrah
STREET entertainment often brightens up a person’s day but one busking act performing this Friday could be positively life-changing.
A Co Cavan father, who is embarking on a seven-day, 32-gig tour of Ireland in aid of his little boy, will be bringing his fundraising campaign to Greystones this Friday, June 24.
‘Jammin for Jarrah’ is in aid of a special little boy called Jarrah Folkman. A happy, bright and loving fiveyear-old boy from Cootehill in Co Cavan, Jarrah was born with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, CVI Blindness and Refractory Epilepsy.
Having a child with severe neurological and physical limitations has been extremely challenging for the family but now that Jarrah is getting older it’s becoming more of a challenge.
As Jarrah grows his parents will struggle to safely lift him into the car seats, the bath and up the stairs – everyday tasks that most parents take for granted. Having the correct equipment is crucial for Jarrah, it would provide him with comfort and opportunities to live a full life.
To that end, Jarrah’s father Ben has launched ‘Jammin for Jarrah’, an epic busking bonanza that will see Ben and six friends travel the length and breadth of Ireland to perform 32 gigs in just seven days. The campaign began in Co Louth last Sunday, June 19, and will finish up back in Cootehill this Saturday.
‘Jarrah has the whole town rallying together and it looks like he’s now set to inspire the country,’ said Ben. ‘ That’s why we’re setting out on this mission, to spread awareness, and to also raise much-needed funds so Jarrah can get the supports he needs and deserves. He’s growing bigger fast and often has to be carried. He needs special equipment and funds raised will go directly towards that. This initiative is also a celebration of his life and his courageous spirit. He’s just such a beautiful young boy, I’d do anything for him. He deserves a decent life like any of us.’ Local musicians are invited to join the lads for a jam this coming Friday, June 24, at the Meridian Point Shopping Centre in Greystones. It will be the second-last day of the tour, and the gang’s third county of the day.
