Giggles helps share healthy food tips
HEALTHY eating was top of the agenda at a fun family event in Rathnew recently.
Thirty–eight families from the Rathnew and Wicklow Town areas attended the ‘Fun and Breakfast with Giggles the Clown’ event in St. Brigid’s Hall, Community Centre.
While toddlers and parents alike enjoyed the fun with Giggles, parents were very interested in the information provided around healthier food choices for their children.
HSE dietitians provided were on hand providing information around feeding children, portion sizes, healthy snacks and rewards. There were stands displaying information about food for infants to five year olds, sugar in foods and the food pyramid. A cookery demonstration was provided by the County Wicklow Partnership, Healthy Food Made Easy Peer Leaders while Maura Byrne, Wicklow County Council provided valuable information on managing food waste.
SuperValu kindly sponsored shopping trollies demonstrating healthier versus less healthy choices for families. County Wicklow Partnership organised the event in conjunction with the HSE and Safe Food. For more information about healthy food courses contact Anne Kavanagh (0402) 20955
