Giggles helps share healthy food tips

HEALTHY eat­ing was top of the agenda at a fun fam­ily event in Rath­new re­cently.

Thirty–eight fam­i­lies from the Rath­new and Wick­low Town ar­eas at­tended the ‘Fun and Break­fast with Giggles the Clown’ event in St. Brigid’s Hall, Com­mu­nity Cen­tre.

While tod­dlers and par­ents alike en­joyed the fun with Giggles, par­ents were very in­ter­ested in the in­for­ma­tion pro­vided around health­ier food choices for their chil­dren.

HSE di­eti­tians pro­vided were on hand pro­vid­ing in­for­ma­tion around feed­ing chil­dren, por­tion sizes, healthy snacks and rewards. There were stands dis­play­ing in­for­ma­tion about food for in­fants to five year olds, su­gar in foods and the food pyra­mid. A cook­ery demon­stra­tion was pro­vided by the County Wick­low Part­ner­ship, Healthy Food Made Easy Peer Lead­ers while Maura Byrne, Wick­low County Coun­cil pro­vided valu­able in­for­ma­tion on man­ag­ing food waste.

Su­perValu kindly spon­sored shop­ping trol­lies demon­strat­ing health­ier ver­sus less healthy choices for fam­i­lies.
