BRAY WOMAN Nikki Hayes is back on the Wicklow airwaves. The former 2FM and Spin 1038 DJ extraordinaire is re-joining the radio station where it all began for her.

Nikki, pictured right, kickstarted her broadcasting career when she was 18 on East Coast FM and quickly moved on to hit music station Spin 1038. From there she was snapped up by RTÉ 2FM, where she worked for eight years before returning to Spin in more recent times.

When the long-term presenter of East Coast FM’s youth driven show ‘On Demand’ Paul Byrne resigned to join Clare FM, station CEO Ciara O’Connor knew exactly who she wanted to take over the microphone.

‘We’re delighted to have Nikki back on the airwaves on East Coast FM. Nikki knows us and she knows Wicklow given Bray is her hometown,’ said Ciara. ‘She has a real understanding of the audience she’ll be talking to and I’m very much looking forward to working with her.’

Nikki said: ‘I’ve always had a huge fondness for East Coast FM and the people working there. I consider them my family and I can’t wait to get back on the airwaves doing what I love in a station I hold dear to my heart.

She started this week, and East Coast On Demand is broadcast Monday to Thursday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Nikki is now married to Frank Black and together they have a three-year-old daughter, Farah.

Later this year Nikki releases her debut book, being published at the end of the summer by Mercier Press.
