In­ter­est­ing lec­ture

The mem­bers of the Kil­macanogue His­tory So­ci­ety are ea­gerly look­ing for­ward to their next talk which will take place this Tues­day (sev­enth) in the Glen­view Ho­tel at 8 p.m.

The guest speaker is Dr Éimear O’Con­nor, who will present a talk ti­tled ‘Seán Keat­ing Art Politics and Build­ing the Ir­ish Na­tion’. Seán Keat­ing, who was born in 1889 and died in 1977, was an out­stand­ing Ir­ish artist who painted iconic im­ages of the Ir­ish War of In­de­pen­dence and the early in­dus­trial pe­riod in Ire­land.

Dr O’Con­nor is an art his­to­rian, cu­ra­tor, lec­turer, art ad­vi­sor and ar­chiv­ist. Born in Dublin, she be­gan her pro­fes­sional ca­reer as a vis­ual artist she has ex­hib­ited in Ire­land, Den­mark and North Amer­ica. Dr O’Con­nor stud­ied art his­tory in UCD and was awarded a PhD from the School of Art His­tory and Cul­tural Pol­icy in 2008 and she is now a Re­search As­so­ciate with TRIARC-Ir­ish Art Re­search Cen­tre (TCD).
