NEW­TOWN INFO EVENING

On Fe­bru­ary 16 at the Parkview Ho­tel, Main Street, New­town 2050 will presents a night of dis­cus­sion and ideas re­lat­ing to the fu­ture devel­op­ment of our town. Si­mon Wall, well known as the driver be­hind re­gen­er­at­ing West­port, County Mayo will be our chief speaker.

The evening will in­spire and in­vig­o­rate your en­gage­ment with the plan­ning and aes­thet­ics of your lo­cal com­mu­nity. Doors open at 7 p.m. Check out New­town 2050 on Face­book.

TENOR IN CON­CERT

Dar­ren Mooney, Tenor, presents an evening of clas­si­cal and Ir­ish favourites, in St Matthew’s Church New­town­moun­tkennedy, on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 11, and is gen­er­ously do­nat­ing the con­cert pro­ceeds to the Kil­mur­ray Church sta­bil­i­sa­tion fund.

Dar­ren’s first New­town con­cert, in Oc­to­ber 2013, packed out the huge ball­room of the Parkview Ho­tel, and this, his ea­gerly an­tic­i­pated sec­ond home show, prom­ises to be an­other night to re­mem­ber.

The sta­bil­i­sa­tion works at the Kil­mur­ray Church is on­go­ing, with about 50% of the work al­ready done. The New­town Tidy Towns Com­mit­tee wish to thank the Artist, for his gen­eros­ity in step­ping in to sup­port this im­por­tant lo­cal His­tor­i­cal project.

We look for­ward to a great mu­si­cal ex­pe­ri­ence pre­sented by this up and com­ing artist. Con­cert starts at 8 p.m., be early, and en­joy. Tick­ets for this mo­men­tous con­cert are avail­able at New­town Post Of­fice, and Eu­gene’s Food Store, at €20 each.

GAA CLUB NOTES

The GAA club news­let­ter for Jan­uary 2017 is now avail­able; please see news sec­tion of the New­town web­site.

Wicklow GAA is run­ning an on­line Foun­da­tion Foot­ball course which is cer­ti­fied over the next few weeks, reg­is­tra­tion and in­struc­tions can be found on­learn­ing.gaa.ie. If you would like to com­plete or know of any­one who wants even to be in­volved in a mi­nor ca­pac­ity it is a use­ful course to com­plete.

On Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 14, Wicklow GAA are hold­ing an Award one Coach Ed­u­ca­tion course which is the sec­ond award on the coach­ing path­way of Gaelic games. The course is aimed at coaches that have pro­gressed through the Foun­da­tion and have ex­pe­ri­ence as a Coach. Two codes of be­hav­iour courses have been or­gan­ised by Wicklow GAA on Mon­day, Fe­bru­ary 13, and Mon­day, Fe­bru­ary 20, at 7.30 p.m. in Bal­li­nakill Cen­tre of Ex­cel­lence. These courses are lim­ited to 30 peo­ple. Book­ings for this course are made through email­ing County Games Man­ager Hugh Ken­ny­hugh.kenny.games- man­ager.wicklow@gaa.ie Please pro­vide your Coaches Name, club and team in which your coach is in­volved with for 2017. Cost for each per­son at­tend­ing is €10 and must be paid on the night to our Code of Ethics Tu­tor.

We are de­lighted to have a large num­ber of kids play­ing for our fast grow­ing ju­ve­nile sides, more kids means more helpers so if you feel you are in a po­si­tion to help in any ca­pac­ity our fu­ture GAA stars then please get in touch as it takes much more than a man­ager to run each team. We are still short of help for some of our teams and may not be able to en­ter teams at all ages due to lack of men­tors, please give Tom a ring at 087 6611480 or Shay at 087 2699620 for more info. Some of our ju­ve­nile teams are back train­ing and we would hope to have all our teams back within the next few weeks.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Luke Power, who was a re­cip­i­ent of a Wicklow Garda youth award at a packed func­tion in the Grand Ho­tel on Satur­day night. The award was recog­ni­tion of the time and ef­fort Luke de­votes to the club as a coach and ref­eree and es­pe­cially for his work with the youngest play­ers in the club. Well done Luke, you have done both your club and com­mu­nity proud.

There was no win­ner of the lotto but one per­son did win €200 by match­ing three num­bers out of four five 16 25. NEW­TOWN JU­NIORS FC

Well the ‘rains’ came and they came with a vengeance and wiped out most of the fix­ture list. In fact the only team that got some ac­tion were the un­der-nine’s as they trav­elled to Grey­stones for a se­ries of games. Af­ter some very good foot­ball among the scor­ers were Cathal O’Toole, Frank Lang and Liam Kin­lan. Mikey and Pat were the best of our keep­ers on the day while among those who starred were Kacey Kelly and Se­bas­tian An­ton. Among the games post­poned were the un­der-13s Shield fi­nal, which was post­poned ear­lier in the week. The new date for the shield fi­nals is Sat.25th/Sun. March 26 (fur­ther de­tails we will con­firm as we get them)

The Devel­op­ment Squad is back in ac­tion and they prac­tise ev­ery Satur­day morn­ing 10.11 a.m. in­doors in the Com- mu­nity Cen­tre (Sports Hall). Cost per player each week is €3. Re­gards the In­door Hall all play­ers must wear in­door/astro run­ners and also must ad­here to all rules gov­ern­ing goal­post safety etc.

Our Last Man Stand­ing com­pe­ti­tion went into an un­prece­dented Week 10 and it was a night of high drama last Tues­day evening. With Bournemouth, Mid­dles­brough and Southamp­ton all fail­ing to win our win­ner was ‘Lar and the mon­keys’ af­ter their se­lec­tion Swansea won 2-1. The group con­sist­ing of our Dev. Squad/un­der-nine’s coach Lau­ren Nolan and her niece Kacey Kelly and two neph­ews Char­lie and Jack take our €470 prize and they have said the money won’t change them or some­thing to that ef­fect. Well done guys and con­grat­u­la­tions and thank you to ev­ery­one for their con­tin­u­ous sup­port. We will be start­ing our next Last Man Stand­ing com­pe­ti­tion on the week­end of March 4 to 6. €10 per player and 50% of the money taken in go to the last man stand­ing. Please sup­port as all money col­lected go to the youth of the area.

LOTTO RE­SULTS

There was no jack­pot win­ner in last week’s lotto draw. The num­bers drawn were 7, 19, 28 and 30. There were four match-three win­ners, Bill and Holly, Bri­die Turner, Cather­ine Wheat­ley and Ann Byrne. Next week’s jack­pot will be €10,900.

ATH­LET­ICS CLUB
