NEWTOWN INFO EVENING
On February 16 at the Parkview Hotel, Main Street, Newtown 2050 will presents a night of discussion and ideas relating to the future development of our town. Simon Wall, well known as the driver behind regenerating Westport, County Mayo will be our chief speaker.
The evening will inspire and invigorate your engagement with the planning and aesthetics of your local community. Doors open at 7 p.m. Check out Newtown 2050 on Facebook.
TENOR IN CONCERT
Darren Mooney, Tenor, presents an evening of classical and Irish favourites, in St Matthew’s Church Newtownmountkennedy, on Saturday, February 11, and is generously donating the concert proceeds to the Kilmurray Church stabilisation fund.
Darren’s first Newtown concert, in October 2013, packed out the huge ballroom of the Parkview Hotel, and this, his eagerly anticipated second home show, promises to be another night to remember.
The stabilisation works at the Kilmurray Church is ongoing, with about 50% of the work already done. The Newtown Tidy Towns Committee wish to thank the Artist, for his generosity in stepping in to support this important local Historical project.
We look forward to a great musical experience presented by this up and coming artist. Concert starts at 8 p.m., be early, and enjoy. Tickets for this momentous concert are available at Newtown Post Office, and Eugene’s Food Store, at €20 each.

Wicklow GAA is running an online Foundation Football course which is certified over the next few weeks, registration and instructions can be found onlearning.gaa.ie. If you would like to complete or know of anyone who wants even to be involved in a minor capacity it is a useful course to complete.
On Tuesday, February 14, Wicklow GAA are holding an Award one Coach Education course which is the second award on the coaching pathway of Gaelic games. The course is aimed at coaches that have progressed through the Foundation and have experience as a Coach. The course takes place over a number of sessions, details can be found on Newtown website. Two codes of behaviour courses have been organised by Wicklow GAA on Monday, February 13, and Monday, February 20, at 7.30 p.m. in Ballinakill Centre of Excellence. These courses are limited to 30 people. Bookings for this course are made through emailing County Games Manager Hugh Kennyhugh.kenny.games- firstname.lastname@example.org Please provide your Coaches Name, club and team in which your coach is involved with for 2017. Cost for each person attending is €10 and must be paid on the night to our Code of Ethics Tutor.
We are delighted to have a large number of kids playing for our fast growing juvenile sides, more kids means more helpers so if you feel you are in a position to help in any capacity our future GAA stars then please get in touch as it takes much more than a manager to run each team. We are still short of help for some of our teams and may not be able to enter teams at all ages due to lack of mentors, please give Tom a ring at 087 6611480 or Shay at 087 2699620 for more info. Some of our juvenile teams are back training and we would hope to have all our teams back within the next few weeks.
Congratulations to Luke Power, who was a recipient of a Wicklow Garda youth award at a packed function in the Grand Hotel on Saturday night. The award was recognition of the time and effort Luke devotes to the club as a coach and referee and especially for his work with the youngest players in the club. Well done Luke, you have done both your club and community proud.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC
Well the ‘rains’ came and they came with a vengeance and wiped out most of the fixture list. In fact the only team that got some action were the under-nine’s as they travelled to Greystones for a series of games. After some very good football among the scorers were Cathal O’Toole, Frank Lang and Liam Kinlan. Mikey and Pat were the best of our keepers on the day while among those who starred were Kacey Kelly and Sebastian Anton. Among the games postponed were the under-13s Shield final, which was postponed earlier in the week. The new date for the shield finals is Sat.25th/Sun. March 26 (further details we will confirm as we get them)

The Development Squad is back in action and they practise every Saturday morning 10.11 a.m. indoors in the Com- munity Centre (Sports Hall). Cost per player each week is €3. Regards the Indoor Hall all players must wear indoor/astro runners and also must adhere to all rules governing goalpost safety etc.

Our Last Man Standing competition went into an unprecedented Week 10 and it was a night of high drama last Tuesday evening. With Bournemouth, Middlesbrough and Southampton all failing to win our winner was ‘Lar and the monkeys’ after their selection Swansea won 2-1. The group consisting of our Dev. Squad/under-nine’s coach Lauren Nolan and her niece Kacey Kelly and two nephews Charlie and Jack take our €470 prize and they have said the money won’t change them or something to that effect. Well done guys and congratulations and thank you to everyone for their continuous support. We will be starting our next Last Man Standing competition on the weekend of March 4 to 6. €10 per player and 50% of the money taken in go to the last man standing. Please support as all money collected go to the youth of the area.
