Ark­low en­joy­ing a great Seabreeze

One of Ire­land’s most com­pelling and in­spi­ra­tional mu­si­cans, Christy Moore will per­form a num­ber of his clas­sic songs dur­ing his two shows in the Ark­low Bay Ho­tel. As al­ways, the show prom­ises to de­light and en­ter­tain those who love the eques­trian world. The show will also in­clude plenty of other ac­tiv­i­ties to de­light, in­clud­ing pony rides, guess the weight of the lamb, car­riage driv­ing and the dog show. The hi­lar­i­ous Ja­son Byrne will bring his new show ‘Popped Up’ to a Wick­low au­di­ence. Tick­ets, priced at €22, are avail­able at the ho­tel re­cep­tion. The show is strictly over 16s. The 2017 Ark­low Seabreeze Fes­ti­val reaches its cli­max this week­end, with events tak­ing place from Fri­day, July 14, right through to Sun­day, July 16.

This fun, free and fam­ily-cen­tered event is a high­light in the town’s so­cial cal­en­dar and of­fers some­thing for young and old.

Music fans won’t be dis­ap­pointed as the week­end will bring live street per­for­mances from Bare Bones, Wise Guys, Grav­ity, Glen Art, Small Town Cri­sis, The Kilken­nys and Ray Dolan.

There will also be a chance for up and com­ing artists to have their music heard through the busk­ing com­pe­ti­tion.

Clas­sic events such as the burger eat­ing con­test, baby show and teddy bears pic­nic will fea­ture along with newer at­trac­tions such as gi­ant games in the park, the great ball race and the mid­way chilli mad­ness.

If you just want to take in fes­ti­val fever as a spec­ta­tor then the WWF Wrestling show, First Re­spon­ders demon­stra­tion and pig derby will cer­tainly pro­vide plenty of en­ter­tain­ment.

Don your cow­boy boots and stet­sons and head over to the fundrais­ing barn dance and bar­be­cue in aid of the com­mu­nity cen­tre.There will be music by the Three Bobs and Roamin Cadil­lacs and then a disco af­ter­wards. Ad­mis­sion: €20. the coun­try and over­seas to take part in this sum­mer com­pe­ti­tion.

The town will come alive with the sounds of march­ing bands at this event hosted by the Inbhear Mor Per­for­mance En­sem­ble.

This year the Ark­low band is de­lighted to wel­come Lib­erty Drum Corps from Northamp­ton in Eng­land, Mullingar Town Band, Celtic Cru­saders, Clon­dalkin Youth Band And Vik­ings Drum Corps from Tal­laght. The show, which is co-hosted by the Ir­ish March­ing Bands As­so­ci­a­tion and Drum Corps Europe, will see over 200 mu­si­cians per­form­ing their 2017 pro­duc­tions. This show is the sixth out of 13 shows across five coun­tries in the 2017 Euro­pean Music Games.

Sum­mer Sounds takes place at Ark­low Celtic Foot­ball Club at 1.30 p.m. on Satur­day, July 15. Ad­mis­sion is €5 for adults and €3 for chil­dren.

Af­ter the show on Satur­day night, bands move onto Main Street for ‘Drum Corps Rock the Town’ which will fea­ture street per­for­mances from Inbhear Mór Per­for­mance En­sem­ble and Lib­erty Drum Corps. The street events kicks off at 7.15 p.m.
