IN­TER­NA­TIONAL CAR­TOON FES­TI­VAL MAKES A RE­TURN

TheT gar­den is a small, vil­lage gar­den sets on many lev­els con­sist­ing of a low­erl court­yard area with a wildlife pondp and up­per gar­den with mixed bor­derb packed with many un­usual plants.p Pre-book­ing not re­quired. Ad­mis­sion:A €5. The In­ter­na­tional Car­toon Fes­ti­val re­turns to Rath­drum this month 25 years af­ter it first took place.

The fes­ti­val was the brain­child of renowned car­toon­ists, the late Terry Willers, and the renowned Martin Turner, along with a group of lo­cal vol­un­teers, and ran for six years af­ter start­ing in 1992.

This year the fes­ti­val will run from July 29 to July 30 and will fea­ture the likes of Tom Hal­l­i­day, Tim Leatherbar­row, Guy Carter and Greame Keyes - all of whom at­tended pre­vi­ous festivals.

One of the high­lights will be work­shops in script-writ­ing hosted by Ir­ish car­toon­ist Michael Car­roll of 2000 AD. There will also be nu­mer­ous other work­shops, in­clud­ing a phone-doc­u­men­tary work­shop with Eleanor Man­ion of RTE which will be a 2 day work­shop. Brown Bag Films will also present some an­i­ma­tion work­shops.

Terry Willers will be re­mem­bered with an ex­hi­bi­tion which will run for the du­ra­tion of the week­end lo­cated above Cen­tra on Rath­drum’s Main Street. A Gala con­cert will also take place in St. Saviours church on Thurs­day, July 27, at 7.30 p.m. with mu­sic from Liam and James Kin­sella, plus guests. There will also be live mu­sic in the square through­out the week­end.
