THE TWO Scottish people at the centre of the investigation into the £175,000 cannabis haul were still being detained in Wicklow Garda Station last night pending a direction from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai are still holding a 35-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman for questioning, having released another woman without charge on Tuesday afternoon.

The two were being held under the recently introduced Drug Trafficking Act, which allowed the Gardai to hold them until midnight.

If not charged by that time, an application will have to be made to a judge to hold them for a further three days.

A decision from the Director of Public Prosecution was awaited by the local Gardai as they proceed.

Gardai operating a routine patrol near to the Newtownmountkennedy by-pass on Monday night stopped the Scottish man and subsequently arrested him and brought him to Wicklow.

A flat on Wicklow’s Main Street was raided and Gardai found a professional and sophisticated cannabis-growing-operation which included lighting and spraying systems.
