Carlisle Grounds ‘should not be sold to developers’

-

SINN Féin TD for Wicklow John Brady has voiced his absolute opposition to any plans to re-develop the Carlisle Grounds in Bray for any type of private development.

Teachta Brady said: ‘I am absolutely opposed to any plans which would see the publicly owned Carlisle Grounds be re-developed for the benefit of private developers and private interests.

‘I have been raising concerns at the motives behind recent interest by private developers in Bray Wanderers for some time and I believe my concerns are now justified.

‘ The people of Bray have always been hugely and rightly proud of being home to Bray Wanderers and the community ownership and stake in the Carlisle Ground has always been paramount.

‘ The Carlisle Grounds must remain in public ownership, this is what I will be calling for and I believe the people of Bray and indeed, Wicklow will also.

‘I have no issue with the club wanting to relocate to another venue and I wish them the very best in their plans for this but the future of the Carlisle Grounds must be just as carefully considered as the club.

‘While vision and drive to be the very best in the sporting world is to be commended, it will not be at the expense of the people of Bray and the Carlisle Grounds to fill the pockets of private developers.’
