Online petition calls for the protection of Bray’s heritage
AN online petition has been set up calling on Bray Municipal District Councillors to halt the neglect of the archives and artefacts abandoned in Bray’s former heritage centre.
Labour Party representative Ian McGahon said that many of the items belonging to the heritage centre are not being properly taken care of since it closed a decade ago.
‘Since then, the building in front of the Royal Hotel on Bray’s Main Street has been occupied by small businesses and a lot of the old heritage centre items are abandoned carelessly in the building,’ said Mr McGahon.
‘I have seen myself first hand that these valuable items charting our towns are left behind in a state of disrepair. Previous attempts to archive, document and preserve these historical artefacts have been lost. This is neglectful and disrespects the valuable heritage of our town,’ he said.
Mr McGahon said he had contacted Bray Municipal District Council about the issue but received an ‘unsatisfactory’ response stating that the items will be documented when resources become available.
‘ This isn’t good enough. It is now time for our Bray councillors to act,’ said Mr McGahon.
