AGB’s Senior men faced Blessington on Saturday evening in Joule Park, in their second match of the championship.

A fast first half had the AGB supporters and their bench on the edge of their seats continuously as the Blessington men put the AGB side through their paces.

Always marked as a match where the AGB side would really need to prove their worth, they most certainly did in this game.

Never stopping to give into the pressure from Blessington, they continued to battle on as Blessington lead from their first few minutes in.

Similarities in both jerseys caused confusion on both the field and in the crowd until a decision at half-time saw Blessington change their colours. The half-time score saw Blessington in the lead 1-05 to 0-04, but on the return to the field in the second half AGB got straight back in to win the ball.

A tough second half saw AGB dominate and really push the pace by rarely letting Blessinton break them down.

The final whistle blew and the scoreline finished AGB 1-12 to 1-10. An excellent display of football from all the AGB players, and scores from Cormac O’Shea (1), Philip Healy, Philip Gleeson, Darragh Fitzgerald, Stephen Hurley, Ivan Hurley saw a successful ending to a tough game.

AGB’s Junior B men’s team played Lacken on Thursday evening at home in Pearse’s Park in the Cater Cup.

A small Lacken panel arrived to face a strong Arklow side. From the start AGB had the strength on the field, and with a very strong bench line manager Eugene Bentley had the upper hand over Lacken’s 13 players.

Both teams played a tough game on the field but the victory was to be AGB’s with the final score finishing at 3-14 to 1-08.

The Junior Bs will travel to Blessington this coming Thursday. Throw in is at 7.30pm.

AGB were represented by Hugh O’Brien and Patrick O Halloran from our under-15 team over the weekend as both players were on the county under-15 panel. Well done, lads.

AGB’s under-16 ladies were in action at home in Pearse’s Park last Tuesday evening against Rathnew. After a great performance from the under-16 girls the match finished 13-12 to 7-05.

AGB’s under-8 and under-10 ladies travelled to Baltinglass on Saturday, July 29, to take part in what was, for the under-8s, their second blitz of the 2017 season.

Nine hard working under-8s showed great determination throughout their three games and the improvement in their skills, even since their recent challenge in Roundwood on the previous Thursday evening, was immense.

They used their steps to make space just as they have been learning at training and they kept moving forward with purpose getting on some great passes and finished it all off by taking some great scores from play.

Well done to Saoirse, Sophie H, Zoe, Naoise, Eimear, Erin, Ciara, Ruby W and Cara!!

Thanks to Baltinglass for being wonderful hosts, to the referees for their encouragement and patience and most of all thanks to the under-8s from Ashford, Wicklow and Tinahely for providing such super opposition in three very enjoyable games! Go AGB ladies!

AGB’s clubhouse is now open for Sunday dinner, every Sunday this July from 1pm to 6pm. Call in and sample our delicious menu, with great choices and prices. The bar is also open on Friday and Saturday evenings from 8pm during the summer months.

Please send club notes to arklow You can contact the AGB PRO at above email, Facebook (‘Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney GAA Club’ or ‘AGB Ladies’) or Twitter.

Lotto - No winner of this week’s jackpot of €4,300. Numbers drawn were 07, 16, 24, and 27. Four match threes: Sam Walsh, Lisa Wybrant Edward Carroll and Catherine O’Keeffe each receive €25. Sellers prize was won by John J O’Toole, haulage contractor, €20. Next week’s jackpot stands at €4,400.

Knockananna suffered their second defeat in the championship to Vallymount last Saturday evening, leaving them with an up hill struggle to qualify for the quarter-finals.

If we beat Barndarrig and Laragh then we progress its as simple as that. First up it Barndarrig Sunday at 1.30pm in Aughrim. We just need that one victory to get the championship blood flowing again.

Needless to say, we need all your support on the day.
