New event will kick­start this year’s Enniskerry Field Day

COUN­TRY­SIDE fun for all the fam­ily is the theme be­hind this year’s Enniskerry Field Day which will take place on Sun­day, Septem­ber 10, with a very ex­cit­ing new ad­di­tion, the ‘Event in the Tent’.

Now in its sixth year, this hugely pop­u­lar fes­ti­val will take place in its new home at Monastery House, just out­side Enniskerry Vil­lage, cour­tesy of Syl Bourke and Mary Fenelon Bourke.

The Enniskerry field day is a great day out for all the fam­ily and in­cludes lots of ex­cit­ing ac­tiv­i­ties for all ages in­clud­ing a vin­tage ve­hi­cle rally, full food vil­lage, pet­ting farm, pony rides, fal­conry and archery dis­plays.

This year sees the ad­di­tion of chil­dren’s nov­elty sports events to the ex­ten­sive field day pro­gramme. Other high­lights in­clude dog shows for tal­ented pedi­gree pooches and mutts alike with prizes on of­fer for the best bis­cuit catch and wag­gli­est tail com­pe­ti­tions.

The field day’s ar­ti­san vil­lage will boast the largest tented area yet with over 30 art and craft stalls and an art gallery of fea­tur­ing paint­ings by artists of lo­cal and na­tional renown. Hugely pop­u­lar at last year’s event, there will also be live art demon­stra­tions by pro­fes­sional artists.

Mean­while, com­pe­ti­tion will be as hot as ever at the home bak­ing and jam mak­ing events where the best Vic­to­ria Sponge Cake and home­made jams will be judged by a team of culi­nary ex­perts. In ad­di­tion to these cat­e­gories, chil­dren are in­vited to get in­volved this year by try­ing their hand at veg­etable mod­el­ling. Chil­dren are chal­lenged to use veg­eta­bles to cre­ate an Enni- There will be a se­cond Jack L con­cert in the Mer­maid Arts Cen­tre due to phe­nom­e­nal de­mand.

Af­ter sell­ing out a gig on Fri­day, Au­gust 11, Jack L will now per­form on a se­cond time on Satur­day, Au­gust 12.

Re­cently at The Hol­ly­wood Fringe Fes­ti­val in Cal­i­for­nia Jack picked up the two top awards - the Judges Pick Best Act award and the Press award for Best Per­for­mance of the Fes­ti­val. With this brand new self-penned al­bum in the shops and sell­ing like hot cakes, and the sin­gle The King of Soho re­ceiv­ing mas­sive coun­try­wide air­play, Jack’s pro­file is sky high. The com­mit­tee is also de­lighted to an­nounce a new event for adults, the ‘Event in the Tent’ which will take place in a mar­quee on the evening of Fri­day, Septem­ber 8. This new for­mat event prom­ises to be a great night out with rock­ing mu­sic fea­tur­ing head­line act Bunty and The Bristle­hounds where pa­trons can kick up their heels whilst en­joy­ing spit-roast pig, whipped ice­cream, cold Wick­low Wolf beer and much more.

The char­ity part­ner for this year’s event is Open Door - a day cen­tre based in Bray that pro­vides fa­cil­i­ties and ac­tiv­i­ties for adults with phys­i­cal dis­abil­i­ties in North Wick­low and South County Dublin.

Open Door was founded in 1984 and over the past 33 years their ac­tiv­i­ties have de­vel­oped and now in­clude art, mu­sic, phys­io­ther­apy, wood­work, com­put­ers and ce­ram­ics. Mem­bers en­joy a new out­look on life and ben­e­fit from the many ac­tiv­i­ties avail­able. The pro­ceeds of this year’s Enniskerry Field Day will also ben­e­fit lo­cal parishes to help sup­port their work in the Enniskerry and sur­round­ing com­mu­ni­ties.
