WEATHER FAILS TO DAMPEN FUN

Bray People - - NEWS - By ESTHER HAYDEN

HUNDREDS braved the damp conditions of Sunday to bring the annual Roundwood Festival to a rousing close.

One of the festival organisers, Sinead Jackson, said the support they received from the local community was fantastic.

‘Each year the organisation and delivery of the festival relies on the generosity of the local community in many different ways. As always, people in the community were willing to help, from businesses providing prizes for the raffle, sponsorship towards running costs, the troop of willing volunteers that came out in all weathers to lend a hand in any number of things from parking, picking up litter, putting up and taking down marquees, making teas and coffees – the list goes on. Thanks also to the gardaí and Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue who were on hand to ensure safety.

‘A great big thank you to everyone who came along to take part in or spectate at the various activities and events whether it was the fun team challenge, walks at Vartry Water Works, set dancing and ceili, concert in the church, trekking out on the hills, canoe races, the legend’s football match at Roundwood AFC or the traditional craft show.’

Sinead said that while the weather on Sunday wasn’t great, it didn’t dampen people’s spirits. ‘ The weather on Sunday wasn’t super but it didn’t stop people from coming out and staying out. Events like the festival rely on people coming out to support them regardless of the weather and we were delighted to see so many local people in attendance as well as a lot of tourists who enjoyed the various events.’
