Every Tues­day from 10 on­wards the shed and gar­den will be open and you will be as­sured of a warm wel­come. Peo­ple may won­der what we do or make in the shed. Well first and fore­most we make friends through friendly en­gag­ing chat and ban­ter. We make tea of course and we make sure that there are light re­fresh­ments avail­able to go with the tea.

We make drills and raised beds for the veg­eta­bles and we are mak­ing pro­vi­sion to cap­ture the rain­wa­ter to wa­ter the veg­eta­bles. We are mak­ing con­tact with our read­ers on a weekly ba­sis in the hope that you will make con­tact with us.

Par­ish of St Lau­rence O’Toole – Week-end change of Mass times. Start­ing on Satur­day, Septem­ber 2, Mass times will be as fol­lows – Round­wood: 6 p.m., Laragh: 7 p.m. and Rath­drum: 8 p.m. and from Sun­day, Septem­ber 3, Mass times will be as fol­lows Laragh: 10.30 a.m., Clara Vale: 9 a.m., Greenane: 10.15 a.m., Rath­drum: 11.30 a.m., Moneystown: 10 a.m. and Round­wood 11.30.


Our an­nual bar­be­cue will take place at 1 p.m. on Au­gust 26. Last year’s event was re­ally suc­cess­ful and we ex­pect it to be equally as good this year, so make sure to join us. You can sam­ple the var­i­ous ac­tiv­i­ties that take place in the cen­tre while you are en­joy­ing the food. Tick­ets are avail­able in ad­vance from the com­mit­tee or you can just come along on the day. Cost on the day is €10 per adult or €25 for fam­ily of 2, three, or four chil­dren un­der-12. The car boot sale at Round­wood Par­ish Hall takes place on the se­cond Sun­day of every month. Set up is at 10, be­gins at 12. Book­ing is es­sen­tial, indoor stalls avail­able. For queries or to book con­tact Ben at 087 9627527.


Round­wood AFC are hav­ing their AGM on Tues­day, Au- gust 22, in our club­house, vartry grounds at 8 p.m. All mo­tions and nom­i­na­tions to be sent to the club sec­re­tary – Ciaran Dunne, Djouce Meadow, Round­wood in writ­ing prior to the AGM. All new mem­bers very wel­come.


Book a per­sonal na­ture walk for your­self and your friends. You choose the theme, the date and the time (Mon­day to Fri­day in July and Au­gust sub­ject to staff avail­abil­ity).

Pos­si­ble themes in­clude birds, wild­flow­ers, trees, mam­mals, but­ter­fly and bug record­ing, ge­ol­ogy and min­ing, re­spon­si­ble dog walk­ing and a gen­eral na­ture walk (or you may have ideas of your own). The walks are suit­able for adults and teenagers only and the max­i­mum group size is 10 peo­ple. Please do not bring your dog, un­less you are booked for ‘re­spon­si­ble dog walk­ing’.

Book­ing is es­sen­tial; please phone 0404 45656 (Mon­day to Fri­day). These walks are free of charge but you may have to pay for car park­ing.


Na­ture Ex­plor­ers is an out­door pro­gramme or­gan­ised by the Wick­low Moun­tains Na­tional Park Guides aimed at chil­dren aged five to 11 years.

Each week the fo­cus is on a dif­fer­ent as­pect of the nat­u­ral world such as bugs, flow­ers, badgers and birds. The ses­sions con­tinue every Wed­nes­day till Au­gust 23 (2 p.m. to 4 p.m.), start­ing from the Up­per Lake car park. Most ac­tiv­i­ties will take place off track, so please dress ac­cord­ingly. No dogs are al­lowed.

Note that an adult must stay with the chil­dren, and be pre­pared to help. Book­ing is es­sen­tial and will be taken from 9 a.m. One week prior to each ses­sion at 0404 45656 (Mon­day to Fri­day).This ac­tiv­ity is free but you may have to pay for car park­ing.


Have you ever won­dered what fern that is? If so, join the Wick­low Moun­tains Na­tional Park Guides at 11 a.m. on Sun­day, Au­gust 13, as they in­ves­ti­gate the ferns of Glen­dalough. The day starts with a short slide show in the Na­tional Park Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­tre, fol­lowed by an ID walk. This event is suit­able for adults and teenagers only. Please do not bring your dog.

This is a free event but you may have to pay for car park­ing. Book­ing is es­sen­tial and will be taken at 0404 45425 from July 30.


A meet­ing for res­i­dents, landown­ers and any­one in­ter­ested in the Pure Mile will take place in Round­wood Par­ish Hall on Mon­day, Au­gust 14, at 7.30 p.m.


This evening starts at 7.30 p.m. on Au­gust 17 with a talk about bats at the Wick­low Moun­tains Na­tional Park Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­tre on the Miner’s Road in Glen­dalough. Please come early if you want to get a seat as this event can be very pop­u­lar. At dusk (8.30 p.m.), the group will head over to the In­for­ma­tion Of­fice to watch the bats emerge from their roost be­fore tak­ing a stroll through the woods with bat de­tec­tors.

Please bring a torch and in­sect re­pel­lent (the midges can be bad). Visi­tors of all ages are wel­come to at­tend ei­ther event, or both. This is a free event but you may have to pay for car park­ing. Book­ing is not re­quired. For more in­for­ma­tion, please phone 0404 45425.


A bat walk will take place on Fri­day, Au­gust 18, on the Bal­ty­nan­ima Pure Mile. Please meet at the Wick­low Way junc­tion on the Lough Dan Road at Lake Park at 8.30 p.m. Please bring a torch.


Round­wood Men’s Shed: Our ac­tiv­i­ties con­tinue every Tues­day from 10 on­wards and age, class, colour or creed will never be an is­sue re­gard­ing join­ing the group. ‘A healthy mind in a healthy body’ would be an apt motto for our SHED and the hun­dreds of other SHEDS through­out the coun­try.

What­ever about some of the aching ail­ing bod­ies, the sto­ry­telling, the prob­lem solv­ing and the near thou­sand years of life’s ex­pe­ri­ence around the ta­ble cer­tainly en­riches the mind. Call 086 8650588 for any in­for­ma­tion at any time.


The an­nual Pat­tern Day Walk from Moneystown Com­mu­nity Cen­tre to Lady’s Well Bal­ly­manus Up­per on Car­rick Moun­tain will take place on Sun­day, Au­gust 13, leav­ing Moneystown at 6 p.m. The route is five and a half miles in to­tal (good walk­ing shoes rec­om­mended and no dogs al­lowed). Suit­able for older chil­dren ac­com­pa­nied by adults. The route is along the road and then on Coillte roads.

Lady’s well is an an­cient holy well that is marked on the Neville Maps of 1760 as an im­por­tant site. The well was redis­cov­ered in 2013 and there has been a walk every year on or close to the orig- inal pat­tern day Au­gust 15 There will be a short talk on the his­tory and tra­di­tions of the holy wells and also rel­e­vant lo­cal his­tory.

If you want to play mu­sic, read a poem or sing a song feel free to join in as singing, danc­ing etc were all part of the tra­di­tions of pat­tern days and vis­its to the well. There was no jack­pot win­ner in last week’s draw. The num­bers drawn were: 11, 23, 25 and 29. There were three match-three win­ners, Mary and Mor­gan, A & L O’Sul­li­van and Noelle Duff. Next week’s jack­pot will be €13,000.

As part of her ‘Strictly’ fundrais­ing Jess Scott is host­ing an Un­der 30 ver­sus Over 30 Ladies Chal­lenge Match fol­lowed by a bar­be­cue on Satur­day, Au­gust 12, throw in 6.30 p.m. fol­lowed by a bar­be­cue. Bring your fam­ily, friends, cheer­ing voice and Ap­petite. Ad­mis­sion €5 each in­clud­ing bar­be­cue. Fam­ily rates ap­ply see you all there.

A 45 Card Game takes place every Tues­day night in Moneystown Com­mu­nity Cen­tre start­ing at a new time of 8.30 p.m. Tea served.


Round­wood set danc­ing con­tin­ues every Thurs­day night from 9 p.m. till 11 p.m. in Ka­vanagh’s Lounge, Round­wood. Mu­sic this month with the O’Kane fam­ily. Ad­mis­sion re­mains at €5. Be­gin­ners are al­ways wel­come along with any­one look­ing for a bit of ex­er­cise and a fun night out.


Round­wood Home Pro­duc­ers Mar­ket is open every Sun­day from mid­day till 5 p.m. in the Par­ish Cen­tre. Come for all your fresh bread, home bak­ing, jams etc. There will also be pic­tures, home crafts, plants and more. We look for­ward to see­ing you all. New mem­bers al­ways wel­come.
