Wicklow nominated in national award categories

THE Garden County has been shortliste­d for two categories in the Cornmarket Cumann na mBunscol National Awards.

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Chill Mhantáin has been shortliste­d in the Public Relations Category and both Scoil Chualann, Bray and Kilcoole Primary School have both been nominated in the School of the Year category.

The Cornmarket Cumann na mBunscol Awards will take place in the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny on Friday, March 9. Brian Cody will be the guest speaker on the night.

The final results will be announced on the night and we wish all involved the very best of luck and we hope that good news will be coming to Wicklow.

To be nominated for such awards in this countrywid­e competitio­n is a huge honour and is testament to the wonderful work being done in the county to promote Gaelic games and culture. We wish all involved the very best of luck!

Wicklow GAA Launch the Player Pathway - This will take place at 5pm on Wednesday, March 14, in the Wicklow GAA Centre of Excellence, Ballinakil­l.

This concerns players from age four to 17. All schools that take part in the GAA Coaching and Games programme are expected to send at least one representa­tive to the launch.

Schools will be presented with player pathway book by Wickllow GDAs.

This pathway book will assist teachers during their coaching sessions.

All schools that are in attendance will be entered into a draw for coaching equipment.

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol fixtures fall victim to the weather:

Cancelled - Girls’ Wicklow Times Shield Day 1 - This week’s girls blitz (Wednesday, March 7) planned for Bray Emmets has been cancelled due to the weather conditions and the uncertaint­y that this will bring for next week. It is also a short turnaround from Monday to get confirmati­on from schools interested in attending. David McDonnell, Oifigeach Peile will be in contact with regards to Day 2 that will hopefully be run off on Wednesday 21st.

Girls’ Wicklow Times Shield Day 2 - March 21 at 11.45 a.m. in Bray – nine-a-side. Teams will be in divisions from Day 1 and this is a competitiv­e competitio­n. Full rules.

Cancelled - Boys’ Allianz Coughlan Cup Day 1, Informatio­n on Day 2.

Allianz Coughlan Cup games in Bray Emmets had to be cancelled due to the snow and sub zero temperatur­es last week. Gary McGillycud­dy, Oifigeach Peile will be in contact regarding Day 2 that has been scheduled for 14th/15th March in Bray Emmets. Details: Eleven-a-side at 11.45 a.m. Your school will be contacted regarding which day you will be attending) Full rules.

INTO Skills Challenge - Two pupils per school may participat­e in each discipline - Boys’ and girls’ football, camogie and hurling.

Please note if a child has already played in Croke Park they cannot take part in the skills competitio­n. Participan­ts must be born on or after January 1, 2006.

Regional events will take place on the week of April 16 and those selected will go forward to a county selection day which will be held on the week of April 23 in Ballinakil­l.
