Glencormac says sad farewell to Dolores
VERY sad news hit Kilmacanogue last Monday morning when locals heard Dolores Messitt had sadly passed away unexpectedly in the care of the staff of St Vincent’s Hospital.
She was the beloved wife of the late Kevin, loving mother of Paula, Bobby, Jim and Glen, sister of May and Florrie, brother Noel, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. Friends and family gathered at her home last Tuesday evening and her removal took place on Wednesday morning to St Mochonog’s Church, Kilmacanogue, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery where a large crowd gathered to say a final farewell to a real lady.
She will be remembered as a kind, sweet lady who adored her family deeply but as they all admit, a part of her died a few years back when she lost her beloved Kevin (Bunty) and they can take solace and comfort that she is with him now.
Most recalled the great times they shared and her love of the football and even last Sunday week when she was poor in hospital, she still wanted to know how Manchester United got on against Chelsea and her son Bobby, a Liverpool fan, had to inform her that United had won.
Dolores was a sister of Noel McFarlane who was with Manchester United famous youth team in the early ’50s that went on to become the Busby Babes.
Huge praise is due to the wonderful people who got the church grounds ready for the removal on Wednesday morning. Patrick Nolan, Ian O’Toole and Frank Connolly did trojan work so that people could gain access to the grounds after the snow fell on Tuesday night. Paddy O’Brien and Mark Quinn, who took the grave on a bitterly cold Tuesday.
Lastly, Fr Dan Nguyan, who took a chance coming out for both Tuesday night’s prayers and the Funeral Mass on Wednesday on his little motorbike no less and was a great character throughout.
Farewell Dolores, Glencormac has lost another lovely lady, rest in peace.
